One option is the ready to use, 'Shake & Pour' choice. 'Shake and Pour' UltraClear is available in both freshwater and saltwater versions.

The second option is a complete system, including growth chamber (UltraClear GC), liquid UltraClear, and powdered UltraBac. The decision regarding which to use depends primarily on the volume of the aquaculture system.

For purposes of determining which UltraClear products or systems to use, there are two main considerations.

FIRST: Is it a freshwater or saltwater system? The very first step is to specify the salinity or fish type. Your specification for salinity should be based on the following:

For specific gravity of 1.00 (purely freshwater) up to 1.013 (0% to 1.5% salinity, or brackish water) use UltraClear for Freshwater Aquaculture.

For specific gravity of 1.013 to 1.03 (1.5% to 4% salinity) use UltraClear for Saltwater Aquaculture.

SECOND: What is the volume of your aquaculture system?
For smaller volume (less than 100,000 gallons), high intensity jobs, shake and pour UltraClear products are generally used rather than a complete UltraClear System.

For large pond aquaculture (100,000 gallons up to many millions of gallons), The UltraClear System for Aquaculture is recommended in most cases. See UltraClear System GC (Growth Chamber) for details on the components of the system and general operations.

Dose Rates for Ponds of Less than 100,000 gallons ('Shake and Pour' UltraClear)
The following dose chart applies to either freshwater and saltwater systems. Be sure to use the correct UltraClear 'Shake and Pour' product UltraClear. Remember, use UltraClear for Freshwater Aquaculture for specific gravity between 1.000 and 1.013 (0 to 1.5% salinity) and use UltraClear for Saltwater Aquaculture for specific gravity between 1.013 and 1.03 (1.5% to 4% salinity

UltraClear for Freshwater Aquaculture and UltraClear for Saltwater Aquaculture are both supplied in quarts and gallons. These are 'Shake and Pour' products, and have a shelf life of one year after receipt by the end user. Refer to the table below for the initial dose rate and weekly maintenance dosages.

Dose Rates for Larger Ponds (Greater Than 100,000 gallons)
For ponds larger than 100,000 gallons always use The UltraClear System for Aquaculture. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE SLIGHT DIFFERENCES FOR FRESHWATER AND SALTWATER.

For freshwater systems, use tap water, or pond water to fill the Growth Chamber. For saltwater systems, water with similar salinity as the actual pond water MUST be used to fill the Growth Chamber. Generally, use pond water itself to fill the Growth Chamber. If it is not possible to use actual pond water, use salt or instant ocean mixed with tap water so that the salinity of water used to fill the Growth Chamber is similar to that of the actual pond.

Freshwater Systems for Aquaculture All freshwater systems will use the standard configuration for the UltraClear System GC (Growth Chamber). Refer to the UltraClear System GC (Growth Chamber) for more specific details.

System 1000 (Uses 55-gallon drum for Growth Chamber)

• For ponds of 100,000 to 500,000 gallons in volume.
• Start with one Pail (Six Gallons) of UltraClear for Freshwater Aquaculture and one bag of UltraBac 1000.
• As usual dose one half of the drum after one week.
• Refill with water, one bag of UltraBac 1000, plus 1 quart of UltraClear for Freshwater Aquaculture.
• Repeat weekly.

System 2000 (Uses 55-gallon drum for Growth Chamber)

• For ponds of 500,000 to 1,500,000 gallons in volume.

The second difference is that water used to fill or refill the Growth Chamber MUST be similar in salinity to that of the actual pond water. Actual pond water can be used to fill the Growth Chamber. Alternatively, you may add salt or a commercial mix such as 'Instant Ocean' to tap water so that the resulting salinity is similar to that of the actual pond water.
